The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) announced that Rizal Memorial Stadium received the highest rating for artificial football turf from FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association). The FIFA 2-Star designation is a requirement for top UEFA and FIFA final round competitions, including the World Cup. Rizal Stadium received the accreditation after rigorous testing by ISA Sports, an independent technical testing body.
“The PSC is proud to provide our Filipino athletes with a pitch that has the highest levels of quality, safety and durability. The FIFA 2-Star accreditation means that our players will be playing on a pitch that is on par with some of the world’s best football pitches. This is a great day for Philippine football,” said PSC Chair Ricardo R. Garcia.
Rizal Stadium’s pitch features the Limonta Max S Artificial Turf System, installed by Limonta’s Philippine partner, E-Sports International, Inc. The Limonta Max S Artificial Turf System features symmetric double-S shaped grass to absorb pressure better from various directions. It is outfitted with enhanced polymer to meet FIFA’s skin abrasion requirements and to absorb impact.
“Rizal Stadium is the first and only FIFA 2-Star pitch in the Philippines. In close partnership with the PSC, E-Sports installed and delivered a pitch that complied with FIFA’s stringent standards for competition-level football matches. We are proud to have worked on such a historic and important project for the Philippine sports community, and look forward to seeing more international games at RMS,” said Audris Romualdez, Managing Director of E-Sports International.
The FIFA Certification is a rigorous process that involves laboratory and field tests to ensure that the turf replicates the playing qualities of a natural turf pitch. Test for the FIFA 2-Star Certification was conducted by ISA SPORTS, a FIFA-accredited independent testing body. The FIFA 2-Star Certification awarded to Rizal Memorial Stadium is valid for 12 months, after which PSC can apply for a field retest.
